Valentine's hot passion free spell!

A lot about Valentine's day is meant to be secretive; you hold back on your name and affections for the frisson of excitement of knowing your loved one has recieved a token of your desire for them. This is all hopeful and charming but what about when you want to unleash the passion!? As it happens I have a little spell to give it a nudge in the right direction.

You will need:
2 red candles
Dried, crushed chillies

Place the 2 candles on a large plate or even in your cauldron if it's big enough. This is mainly to create a safe enough environment for a little fire based spell so give this some consideration when setting everything up. Light your candles and say:

Let my love roam free
And may passion ignite

May your love be with me

And our union see light

Then take the chillies and sprinkle over the candle flame to spark off the romance!

The fresher the chillies, by the way, the more I find that they light up. If you find they don't, then you can consider putting the flakes in a bowl and lighting them this way. Personally, there's something about the smell that I find genuinely comforting.

Ostara Spell Diary 6 - Incantation

For my Ostara incantation I have decided to focus especially on love and emotional expression - this being a festival of fertility. Be it the economic climate, the winter climate or a New Year that has lacked cheer these have been trying times for myself and many of the good friends around me. Hardly the right circumstances for love, romance and being open with your feelings is it? So seeing as this is also a time for new hope I thought this would work well all mixed up together.

So for relationships that have felt the strain, this will strengthen the bond and for those looking for new love, this will lift your spirits and bring back your spark.

Not much needed for this spell. Just an altar bell, 1 yellow candle and 1 green candle and whatever spring decorations for your altar or workspace you fancy.

My feelings were sleeping
And now can awake
The cobwebs I’m sweeping
A clear path I make

For the love that’s within me
To move forward once more
Communication is my key
So I open the door

Ring the bell once

‘Tis ajar
I go through it
And forwards I go
My courage in hand
My words will aflow

I give my love freely
At the chime of the bell (ring once)
And welcome it back to me
And let my heart swell

Ring the bell a 3rd time and make it nice and loud!

Spells for Beginners

I’m often asked by people who have a passing interest in trying witchcraft - where do you start, what are good spells for beginners? My stock response is usually ‘anywhere you like, just keep it fun, keep your intentions pure and just about any spell can be used by the beginner.’ The trouble is, you’ll not discover that this is true until you have a little more experience under your belt! I’m a fan of simple spells anyway and I don’t think there are many on my blog here that couldn’t be classed as good spells for beginners. The problem stems more from just how huge an area of knowledge spell casting is. It can be completely overwhelming in terms of information, choice, tools & ingredients, where you gain your powers from.

You will work out the answers to these questions just the same way you work out how to go about a new job or a hobby. It’s a mixture of trying spells, seeing what happens, looking up answers when it doesn’t go according to plan! So essentially, any spell is a suitable spell for a beginner if you persevere.

But I understand how difficult it is and so here is a beginner’s spell that I often recommend because a) it doesn’t require much in the way of ingredients b) it’s simple and easy to follow and c) it’s a love spell and everyone loves those!

Spell for Beginner

You will need:

4 floral incense sticks (lavender, rose or ylang ylang are good)
Holder or ash collector for each stick

Line the holders in front of you. Then take the first incense stick, light it and place it in the nearest holder, saying:
I whisper into the air, to open up the path of my future

Light the second stick saying:
I whisper into the air, to bring forth my one true love to me

Light the third:
I whisper into the air, to now open my heart to believe

And at the forth, say:
I whisper into the air and bid his/her name be whispered back.

I like this spell as it draws on psychic abilities too. I find that the power comes from looking into the swirling smoke and seeing what visions or messages come to you. You may find them to be very specific to the person you have in mind, you may not. Jot down anything that comes to you along with any changes that you notice over the following week. If you don’t feel much is happening, don’t force it. Try again in a few days time.
