Witchcraft/Wiccan Spells - End the confusion!

Witchcraft/Wiccan Spells - What’s the Difference?

Merry meet! In my last post I said that I was going to include a free spell that you could do with tarot cards but I’m going to leave that to my next post. I like to build up the suspense! So, today I’d just like to say a few words on witchcraft/Wiccan spells. What’s the difference?

There is certainly a lot of crossover between the two so don’t worry too much that you might have been offending someone. Principally, Wicca is the religion and the followers are people who have joined a coven or group so that they can perform their rituals together to combine energies. They will also receive training in order to perform their spells.

Witchcraft is often more personal. A witch may operate and study on her own, without the aid of a group, although she may have friends that she swaps her knowledge with.

There is also a very important distinction that Wiccans will make for social reasons. Because witches and witchcraft has been so misunderstood throughout the ages, it became associated with dark practises and evil. In order to distance themselves from this, many who would otherwise have been happy to call themselves witches turned to the name of Wicca or Wiccan. This way, they felt they would be free to carry our their religion without fear of negativity and prejudice.

Witchcraft/Wiccan Spells - What are the Similarities??

Both witchcraft and wiccan spells can be performed at an altar.

Both use rituals and ‘prayer’ such as recitations or incantations.

Both witchcraft and wiccan spells may call upon an ancient Goddess or God to empower them, or perform a ritual in their honour (important to do regularly if you want to receive their blessings, whether you consider yourself a witch or Wiccan).

Witchcraft/wiccan spells both draw heavily from the natural world, whether it is calling to the elements such as earth, air, fire and water or from the rich resources that grow around us. Herbs, flowers, tree bark etc, can all be used.

So Wicca supplies will be pretty much identical to witchcraft supplies, unless someone who is Wiccan needs something that is unique to their coven only.

Ok, sorry about the diversion and I promise to get working on the tarot card spells for you for next time!

A belated free love spell - but in time for Valentines's Day!

After talking about wiccan names and meanings in my last post, I haven’t managed to get round to posting any free spells since! Really sorry, but hopefully I can make up for it this week with a free spell for everyone’s favourite subject. Yep - a love spell!

This is a popular basic free spell and you will come across a few different versions of it. This, to my mind, is the most successful version of it, and I have changed a few elements based on my experience.

This free spell is done with a pink spell candle but if you don’t have one, a rose quartz crystal really powers up feelings of love so try and get hold of one if you can. Instead of sitting in front of the candle you can place the crystal in front of you.

For the free spell, you will need to take 3 ribbons or pieces of cord. These can be 3colours that mean the most to you, or that you associate with love - such as pink, purple and/or red.

If you have a pink candle, light it and braid your ribbons together while at the same time thinking of the love of your life or just love in general. Tie a knot at the top of the ribbons. When you get to the middle, tie another knot and think hard about your need to find love. Continue braiding until you get to the end and then tie another knot.

Focus on the candle for a while and hold the ribbons in the palm of your hand, trying not to break the concentration.
When you are done, carry the braided ribbons around with you for 3 days. If you are able and have enough left, light the candle again in the evenings and continue to combine your energies into bringing you love. (If you are using the rose quartz, carry that with you along with the ribbon).

So, what are you waiting for?? Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Hope you liked this free spell. I’m planning on including a free spell that you can do with tarot cards next time so hope you come back and check it out.

Wiccan Names and Meanings

While I was thinking over what should be the subject of my next post, I met up with a friend and got to talking about the importance of wiccan names and meanings. We both agreed that choosing a wiccan name was certainly not a decision to be taken lightly, but had quite varying opinions of many of the other factors involved. It was an interesting conversation and afterwards I thought about the fact that there might be people reading the blog who were considering Wicca or witchcraft as a way of life and so it might be useful to discuss the implications of choosing a name.

Actually, my reasons for bringing this subject in so early are two fold. Firstly, to get you thinking about the importance of your development, whatever your current stage might be. But also so that you could start to see what characteristics and traits are significant and what you should be expecting. I figured that now was as good a time as any!

Where to Start When Searching for a Witch/WiccanName?

Wiccan names and meanings are very wide ranging, but also very personal. Every witch will tell you a different story of how she came by her (or his) name. For some, it is intensely private, and is kept secret between themselves and the Gods and Goddesses. Others, reveal it to their coven, while others still are happy to make the name publicly known (although this is frowned upon by many covens and practising wiccans).

In choosing your name, I’m of the opinion that as well as representing something that you strive to be, it should also epitomise your strongest personality traits, seeing as it is something that will potentially remain with you for a very long time.

So, you should be starting to think about some of the qualities that you have as a person now, as well as those you would also like to develop as you progress as a witch. Take a moment to really think about it. Many people fall into the trap of trying to become someone different when they take up witchcraft and mistakenly choose a name that is the opposite of them, revealing the fact that they are running away from something. This is a mistake. You will wind up having to change your name again and again and this will interfere with your progression and your blossoming abilities. While being open minded and flexible is essential, being aimless will get you nowhere.

To give you a few pointers I thought it would be useful to look at some of the more common wiccan names and meanings as well as suggest places for you to look for inspiration. As you need to make your wiccan name as personalised as possible, I wouldn’t personally recommend a wiccan name generator for making any final decisions. However they can be a lot of fun! And it may give you a rough idea of the sorts of names and combinations that are out there.

Some wiccan names have become very popular of recent years, with names such as Amber, Morgan, Phoenix and (maybe predictably) Merlin so you may wish to seek out what the most regularly used names are to give you inspiration. A word of warning when going for popular names - try to avoid the names of Gods or Goddesses. It is ok to incorporate some kind of homage to them into your name, but to adopt their name exactly will come across as if you believe yourself on a par with them and their higher state. And it might not win you any friends!

You may be surprised to know that baby name books or sites are as good a source as any, as they give clear definitions and name meanings. Therefore, you can then seek out names that mean strong, resilient or gracious etc.

Lastly, look to the earth and its gifts and consider names such as Oak, Rain or Rose to represent both the power you gain from nature, and also to honour it.

How Do You know When You Have Found the Right Wiccan Name?

There is no simple answer to this question unfortunately. It is a matter of waiting until the right Wiccan name and meaning finds you - you will just know it’s the right one. It can be helpful to try sitting quietly and letting your thoughts run over the name in your mind to see whether it feels complete. Try a simple ritual, such as writing it in runes or a cleansing, smudging ritual.

If you are just starting to take an interest in Wicca and/or Witchcraft, of course there is no rush in finding a name. But it can be very useful in helping you with your journey personal, and aid you in bringing out your strengths. Good luck!

Welcome to my Free Love Spells Journal!

Hi there!
Welcome to my new blog about free spells and love spells, created to help you get and keep the love of your life! My name is Francesca and I have been a practising witch or Wicca for over 10 years. I started off being intrigued but a little sceptical and now have grown in both my beliefs and abilities to the point where spells and witchcraft are a part of my every day life. So, I wanted to share my life-style and knowledge with others so that they too can invoke the power of the earth and nature, experiencing the awe inspiring things I have.

Levels of Free Spells

I will be providing all level of free spells and love spells for you to try so don’t worry if you have never done anything like this before. I’ll do my best to give full instructions to cater for all you complete beginners out there. I’ll also try to give you some indication of what level the free spell is on - sort of a quick reference guide so you can tell whether or not you are ready for it yet.

Love Spells & Responsibility

With love spells, taking some responsibility is essential (as it invariably involves another person) so I will almost always class it as at least ‘medium level’. It may not be hard to perform, but I urge you to think any consequences through carefully. Seeing as most of my free spells will be love spells, this should become almost routine for you. Sometimes, but not always, spell ingredients will be required but I will tell you how readily available they are and if I can, how much you should be expecting to pay. But the best thing of all about opening up to witchcraft, is that your greatest power comes to you from the earth itself. It’s an abundant and rich resource and you will find many items right on your doorstep.

First Free Love Spell!

Anyway, fancy a sneak peak at what to expect?!! Let’s get this blog off with a bang with your first free spell - a very simple love spell to make your future beloved known to you.

You will need:

A handful of freshly picked violets (which are believed to have aphrodisiac properties).

You will need to take the violets outside, preferably somewhere that makes you feel calm and enables you to concentrate. Turn to the west, and then focus your mind on love and matters of the heart and when you are ready, scatter the violets into the air. Take a moment to truly experience the positive energy coming to you from the earth. Then look at the pattern that the violets have landed in and you should be able to make out the initials of the one you will eventually fall in love with.

Go give it a try! It will be a great lesson in learning to feel nature’s forces around you and starting to tune in to them.

Can’t wait to write my next post! Thanks for reading, and I hope you follow the blog in the weeks to come for what I really hope will be enlightening free spells that will really help you make positive changes in your life!

Thanks again, Francesca
